Technical Consultant / Developer (Research Cloud Platform)
Location: Amsterdam (Hybrid, 2 days on-site per week)
Contract: Initial contract until December 2026 with possible extension
Hours: 32-40 hours per week
Rate: Competitive market rate
About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Consultant / Developer to support a major organisation within the higher education and research sector on a strategic cloud migration project.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for migrating existing Virtual Research Environments (VREs) to a modern cloud-based research platform. This role combines infrastructure automation, cloud technologies, software development, and technical consultancy.
Working alongside solution architects, software developers, and external technology partners, you will help design and deliver a robust and scalable service for researchers and scientific users.
Key Responsibilities
- Migrate existing Ansible-based environments to a cloud-hosted research platform.
- Investigate, design, and implement integrations with platform APIs.
- Develop and maintain applications built with Python and Django.
- Gather and analyse business and technical requirements from stakeholders.
- Translate requirements into scalable technical solutions alongside solution architects.
- Support infrastructure automation and platform modernisation initiatives.
- Contribute to the delivery of a stable and secure research environment.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong experience with Ansible and infrastructure automation.
- Commercial experience with Python development.
- Experience developing and supporting Django applications.
- Experience working with virtualization technologies such as:
- Knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Experience integrating with APIs.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable
- Experience with Azure Cloud services.
- Knowledge of HTMX and/or Alpine.js.
- Experience working within higher education, research, scientific, or public sector environments.
- Previous experience delivering cloud migration or platform transformation projects.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a senior Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or Technical Consultant with a strong blend of infrastructure and software development expertise.
You will be comfortable working across cloud platforms, automation tooling, and application development, while also engaging with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
